Sensex may plunge further: April 2010

Sensex may take a plunge by the end of April following cues from the International Markets.

Trade and other services were recently hit by the Airspace closure in Europe and it has affected many businesses as much as the travellers alike. Add to that the Goldman Sachs fraud will only come more clear this weekend which can lead to much needed correction in the market.

Activity in the market will increase by May and expect good returns.

  • Bharti Airtel closes on Kuwaiti Zain assets

Bharati Airtel’s hunt for inorganic growth this time around has come to an halt at the Kuwait based Zain group’s assests in the African continent excluding Sudan and Morocco. This move comes after facing two failed deals with African major MTN, whose deal size would have ranged from 20 to 25$ billion.

Reports suggest that Bharati is offering 10$ Billion for all of Zain’s assets except Morocco and Sudan. The valuations are out there with out any supporting evidence of the actual value and the premium justification. Bharati says that it values the Zain assets at $12 Billion which seems absurd.

  • Praise them and kick them

The Media is seemingly playing games. I fail to understand that why are they doing this. Yesterday, the Star News show “Shaaramnak” was just more pathetic as anything worse can be.

Ofcourse there was a reason to worry but why such hysteria? India has lost many test matches and the team has failed before too. When they win, they just keep blabbering about how each individual performed but when they loose, they will poop each individual player.

Now if Sachin has hit a century and he couldn’t help turn India’s fortunes, who is to blame? Well, if you go by how the Indian Media behaves then you would be in for a surpirse. First they blamed the master blaster himself.

Why Sachin created hopes in Billions of Indians about a turn of tide and filed to finish it?

To which I would politely reply: Creating hopes is better than not even doing something.

Why can’t you take the sport lightly, without creating hatered. See the guy (bowler) who blew the top order and appraise his performace rather than creating much fuss about the non performance of the batsmen. Why cant you?

  • Linguistic Divide

Its been some years now that we are facing this linguistic divide. Tamil Nadu being the first state to give its regional language more importance than the National Language. This still consider that Tamil should have been India’s national language as against Hindi.

However atleast in the name of their language, they had not beaten anyone who reside in their state. Their obsession was only with their language being recognized than not accepting people who dont know the language.

A similar but deadly event similar to this one is what Mumbai is facing now for some 20 years. The son – of – the soil funda is just getting wee bit over. The fact that two sicons of one family are now fighting for the same people from different parties makes things complex. Its very risky to step out today knowing that Rahul Gandhi is visiting Mumbai and he is threatened by Shiv Sainiks goons. The Sainiks & MNS goons have much more control over the Mumbai than even Mumbai Police.

Lets just hope that day passes calm.

  • Petrol pricing shouldnt be free

If this had happened, the petrol price would have set us back by INR 90 for a liter when the crude oil touched $150 per barrel.

In India, Petrol and Diesel prices are subsidized so that common man can affort it. But a free market will mean boom for petrol companies than for the Common man. With food prices already sky high, this would add much to the misery of a Common man. He would have more burden to share and more hours to put at his work.

    Issues with the Common Man

    1. Poor Salary rise in the wake of recent recession
    2. Hikes ranging from 4% of CTC to just 5% of Basic salary component.
    3. Saving rate down by 23% (an estimate based on my own calculations)
    4. Prices of Essential commodities have increased
    5. Food prices increased; sugar, toor dal etc. heavily affected
    6. Job security issues
    7. Limited spending – which in turn effects the overall economy.

All this is just a small snippet of what could be a much more worse scenario. Why the sudden price hike is being debated madly between the names that be, but over all scenario has put all the politicians to blame.

Its been circulated in the internet media that politicians are using this price manipulation technique to fill up their coffers and  also to ensure their votebank also stays loyal.

  • A Noble prize for Filth

Well, this isnt what the Noble prize committee saying… but our own Environment Minister Mr. Jairam Ramesh’s words.

He is right when he says that our municipality do not have proper mechanism for cleaning the garbage left behind by the citizens. Now how does that explain the efficiency?

I have a slightly different opinion on this.

Its people should also contribute by following proper disposal ways. Indians have a habit of taking things for granted. We all do throw things out in open and then we claim that the municipality isn’t doing its work. Secondly, there is no one who will stand infront of the municipality and question their work.

The babus have so much become accustomed with taking bribes, that for everything, they need something. Without which, your work request will keep lagging. I have heard so many stories, which makes me not to even approach anyone.

  • India Angered!

Indians have something against China and the same vice-versa.

When the world’s most powerful man tells China to oversee the peace talks between India and Pakistan, it would ofcourse anger the Indians.

    Zee News reported:

The Ministry of External Affairs said that it had objections to Obama giving China a greater role in South Asian affairs, adding a third country’s role cannot be envisaged in the bilateral relationships between countries of the region.

This is a wake up call to all those who are ruling the country.

  • Review of risky drugs

    Review of risky drugs

I havent been getting time to blog of late owing to my concentration being diverted to social networking big time, but this is a very important step the Govt. is taking and I was lured to write on this one, albeit getting late to office.

The Drugs Technical Advisory Board is likely to do a risk assessment of 12 drugs that are banned globally, but are still on sale in India. If you remember, there were chain mails that were circulated spreading awareness about certain drugs that are still being sold in India thought some of them are carcinogens.

Though this does not ensure that these will be banned. Indian political systems works for the companies rather than for the Citizens which might be a reason that these drugs are still on sale in India.

The DNA Mumbai daily newspaper has reported the list of all drugs that are banned globally.

Novalgin, Baralgan (Aventis), Nise (Dr. Reddy’s), Nimulid (Panacea), D’Cold and Vicks Action 500 etc are the prominent ones. Furoxone (Glaxo) and Lomofen (RPG) are the carcinogens.

  • Red Bull display their machinery

Come Sunday and all the F1 fans can feast their eyes with a RBR F1 car doing rounds on the recently inaugurated Bandra Worli sea link. The RBR 02 2005 car of David Coulthard will cruise on the sea link. The authorities had given their NOC to the event management company for the event with a raider. The election commission has to also approve since the state elections are just so close. Initially plans were put on hold but with their approval coming, the car can zoom.

But there is a catch. The Red Bull team will not be able to display the true speed. David will have to run the car just 20kmph above the pit land speed. That is not exceeding the 100 kmph. This might be a bit disappointing for all the F1 fans and Red Bull. Hope to catch the glimpse of the RBR.

  • Water found on Moon: NASA thanks ISRO

Its all over the news now. NASA’s M3 lunar payload has provided information about presence of water molecules on Moon. These molecules are hidden underneath a ton of rocks, totaling to about 27 ounces in one area. Roughly a liter of water.

With this probe and some earlier probes like Cassini, the data collected is merged and confirmed that indeed there is water on Moon.

NASA also, in its press conference, thanked ISRO for being the part of discovery. This is a big news for all of Indians and makes us proud too.

  • Rain gods back in Business

After my visit to Kerala last month, I was finally able to see those temperatures come down here in Mumbai. The mercury has certainly come down on the scale. I just love the fact that even at home, I no longer sweat like anything which was the case earlier. It so felt like it rained for the first time. The aroma of sand kicks my brains which suddenly goes back to the time I spent in Kerala. Its a welcome move by Rain gods. The Thunder and Lightening are just amazing to listen and see. Hope this continues for a week which will hope fully cool down the humid and hot environment.

  • The Pak is playing games

This is a topic that is often discussed and its of national importance. But I dont see a reason why Pakistan is acting crazy? Its not undertaking trails of those accused of the 26/11 attacks and is still waiting for evidence from the Indian Government. Is Pakistan’s national leaders not competent enough to lead the nation? These all are the questions that needs to addressed by the Global powers. The US gives millions of dollars as aid for what? To give Pakistan a chance to update its Nuclear power. Or is the US is really acting stupid along with Pakistan and fooling around about their honey moon. India is emerging as a Global Super Power and may be that is where the Americans are finding it difficult to come to terms. Hope it comes, may be in S

  • Work and Work – Why is it difficult to work?

Why is it difficult to work after some period when you have less or no work? I am wondering…

For last two weeks, me and my team mates have been under tremendous pressure and the work only keeps mounting. So I was wondering that if we get rusted a bit with little or no work, and all of a sudden you get hell a lot of work, how should you handle this?

    A. Don’t Panic.

    B. Just work

That is what we did. We did panic in initial two days, but then on we were able to handle things pretty well. Its just a phase and probably, we just got suprised.

Work that we used to do quickly was taking now a lot of time. A bit of here and there happened and finally, the dust setteled. That also explains why I have not been blogging of late.
